Residents ask for hawk light on eastside

Speedway and Beverly has become known as such a dangerous intersection that those who live in the area are asking for a hawk light.

The Tucson Department of Transportation says the intersection is No. 4 on its waiting list for the treatment, KGUN9's Carlos Herrera reports.

The city will wait for the Regional Transportation Authority to provide funding.

Ten schools are within five miles of the intersection.

Pedestrian danger is a problem in the city. Tucson police say that citywide, tehre have been 17 pedestrian deaths in 2017. Half of them were hit-and-runs.
