"The first thing that hit my mind was something's not adding up right now, my niece was not suicidal and she wasn't stupid," said Crystal Barnett, aunt of Jorden Marie Simms.
Barnett posted a status with photos of her niece and her claims that a Safford Police officer sexually assaulted her.
She says her sister, Jorden's mother, compelled her to share her story online after Jorden was hospitalized.
"'Something is very, very wrong and somebody knows what happened to my daughter,'" Barnett said her sister told her.
"It was at that time that I wrote the Facebook post."
"They're absolutely false, and he denies them in the strongest possible terms," attorney Louis Fidel, said.
Fidel is a Tucson attorney representing the accused officer.
He told KGUN9 some comments about the case on posted social media put the officer's personal safety at risk.
Barnett says that wasn't her intent.
"I'm not trying to put anybody in harm, I'm not trying to induce hatred of police or law enforcement. We're just trying to get answers."
"Nobody should be harassed, we're all innocent until proven guilty," she said.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety is currently investigating this case.
Barnett said the family hopes to plan a memorial service for Jorden soon, she says that might be delayed by a second autopsy process.
