Protesters at a Phoenix City Council meeting speak about funding an investigation on use of force

Phoenix police will not be subject to an outside review after civil rights groups claimed the department used too much force during a massive protest last week outside a President Trump rally.

Protesters took over a Phoenix City Council meeting this evening.

The council was set to vote on funding an independent investigation into the use of force by the Phoenix Police Department.

Outspoken protesters at the meeting today said the outside firm would not be partial enough because they have too close a relationship with Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams.

Last week, police deployed pepper balls and tear gas on protesters outside a President Trump rally.

Civil rights groups say it was inhumane, but Phoenix police say they have video that proves protesters started throwing rocks and bottles at them.
