TUCSON, Ariz. - Tucson Police Gang detectives are investigating a shooting and deadly rollover on I-19, that appear to be related.
TPD says someone called 911 around 9 p.m. Wednesday about a person being shot at an apartment complex near Valenica and 12th. When police got to the complex, they could not find anyone. Officers did find an apartment unit with its door open and began an investigation.
There was another call that came in about a rollover crash on I-19, just north of Valencia. The crash was between two vehicles. In one car, TPD says three people were hurt, including a man who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. That man has been idenfied as 24-year-old Luis Puente. The two other men suffered non-life threatening injuries. In the second vehicle involved, there was a man and a woman but both are expected to be ok.
Officers say the vehicle with the three men tried to change lanes when it clipped another vehicle causing both to roll over. The Arizona Department of Public Safety is also investigating the crash.
Tucson Police says they do not know where the men in the vehicle were heading but one of them lived at the apartment complex where officers got the first call. Another man is a known gang member.
