TUCSON, Ariz. -- The possible deal to replace the ice rink at Tucson Arena is moving forward.

According to the Rio Nuevo Mulitpurpose Facilities District, the board unanimously approved moving forward with a potential contract with a team, led by Lloyd Construction, to replace the ice system at the Tucson Convention Center.

The ice rink is home to the Tucson Roadrunners and the upgrades would be "consistent with an NHL floor," according to Board Chairman Fletcher McCusker.

The upgrades could begin Summer 2019 during the off season. The estimated cost would be about $2.5 million to replace the ice.
