TUCSON, Ariz. - Pima County Sheriff's Deputies have successfully administered Narcan spray in three separate opioid crisis this year.
PCSD were supplied with Narcan spray earlier this year.
Narcan is a nasal spray version of the drug naloxone, which can be used to revive those overdosing on opioids.
On May 1 deputies responded to a call about an unconscious man behind a business. After arrival deputies found a 41-year-old man who appeared to be unresponsive from a possible opioid overdose. After deputies administered the spray the man became conscious and was taken to the hospital.
On April 25 deputies responded to a call about reports of a man using drugs in a facility restroom. Upon arrival deputies found a 25-year-old man who was unresponsive. Once deputies administered the spray the man became conscious and was taken to the hospital.
On March 25 deputies responded to a call about an apparent overdose. Once deputies arrived they found a 25-year-old woman who was unconscious. Deputies administered two doses of Narcan to the woman. She regained consciousness and was taken to the hospital
According to the Arizona Department of Health Services , there have been over 20,000 opioid overdoses between June 15, 2017 and May 3, 2019 this year.
Pima County Sheriff's Department deputies were recently issued Narcan for individual first aid kits.
The Narcan was provided at no cost to the Sheriff's Department by the Arizona Department of Health Services.
