TUCSON, Ariz. - Pima Animal Care Center is offering free microchipping services ahead of New Year's Eve.
Shelter officials said each year they take in about 500 animals in the week after January 1.
Dogs and cats get spooked and run during loud celebrations including fireworks.
They said getting a microchip inserted can help reunite lost pets with their owners even faster.
Thursday the shelter will microchip pets for free from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Friday through Sunday they will perform the service from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
and Monday they'll microchip from 12 p.m. - 3 p.m.
