TUCSON, Ariz. -- As the start to the 2019-2020 school year approaches, the Pima County Sheriff's Department is partnering with El Rio Health to help get families ready to head back to the classroom.

On Saturday, July 13, the Badges and Backpacks event will be held at the Tucson Convention Center from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The back-to-school event will even have a health fair, safety stations and hands-on activities.

There will also be free backpacks, while supplies last. It is on a first come, first serve basis and students must be present and enrolled in K-12 schools.

The health fair will provide screenings for hearing, dental, vision and skin cancer. There will also be insurance assistance and exercise and wellness demonstrations, according to PCSD.

The event will also have a bike/helmet giveaway, plus safety stations that will teach students about drug and bullying prevention, gun safety and Emergency preparedness.

Badges and Backpacks will be in Exhibit Hall A, B and C. Parking will be on the west side, lot B.
