Pima County Sheriff's Department has identified the man arrested after a standoff with law enforcement on the far Northwest side as 48-year-old Terry Cupell.
Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of domestic violence in the area of 12000 West Magee Road, just south of Marana High School, on May 2.
Upon arrival, deputies learned Cupell had allegedly been in a physical altercation with the victim and retreated into residence home, according to the news release.
Cupell had also allegedly poured a flammable liquid on the victim's car, the news release said.
Cupell refused to cooperate or exit his residence, the news release said. Detectives from the PCSD Arson Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, members of the Pima Regional SWAT Team and the Pima Regional Negotiations Team responded to the scene.
Negotiations continued for two hours. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Cupell, then SWAT members used flash/sound diversionary devices and a pepper ball chemical agent deployment system to get him out, the news release said. Cupell was taken into custody without incident.
Cupell was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, disorderly conduct, misdemeanor domestic violence assault, misdemeanor domestic violence criminal damage, felony attempted arson of a structure/property, felony aggravated assault on a peace officer and felony unlawful imprisonment.
The investigation is ongoing.

Pima County Sheriff's Department is asking drivers to avoid the area around 12000 W. Magee Road, about a mile south of Marana High School on the west side.
PCSD said deputies are dealing with a barricade subject in one of the homes. Deputies said they were responding to a domestic violence call at the home when a man barricaded himself inside. Deputies said there was no one else barricaded inside with him. There are no outstanding suspects.
