Tucson police say a man assaulted an officer on the westside Tuesday morning.

According to Sgt. Kimberly Bay, a man threw an object at a community service patrol car at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of West Ajo Way.

The unarmed officer called for backup, and armed officers confronted the man, who attacked one of the officers, causing a gash in his leg.

The officer was treated with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect was arrested and faces a charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer.

KGUN9 originally incorrectly reported the officer was treated for life-threatening injuries.
