TUCSON, Ariz. - Local hospitals welcomed the first babies of the new year.
Perla Tellez began 2020 by giving birth to a baby girl at Tucson Medical Center.
Tellez, 20, gave birth to the girl at 1:49 a.m. Wednesday.
The newborn, who weighs 8 pounds, has not been named.
The first baby of the year at Banner University Medical Center came at 6:05 a.m. Amayah Santacruz weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces.
Hospital staffers gave mother Jazmin Alvarez a New Year baby gift basket filled with toys, baby supplies and other trinkets.
