TUCSON, Ariz. — The City of Tucson is prioritizing bicycle safety at Sentinel Peak Park by unveiling new signage along Sentinel Peak Road.
The signs come after a survey was released to the community in 2019. Other changes include reflective striping along the road, plus the City deciding to lower the speed limit from 25 to 15 mph.
The sign unveiling will take place Monday, March 2, at 3:33 p.m.. It will be at Sentinel Peak Park's lower parking lot, 1000 Sentinel Peak Road. Parking will be available in the lower parking lot.
The City partnered with the Rob Dollar Foundation and plans to install signs that will remind motorists to share the road and to give people on bicycles ample room when passing. State law requires a minimum of three feet to pass bicycles.
Mayor Regina Romero said in an email, “The installation of these new signs takes the City of Tucson one step closer to safe and accessible streets for all. They will help educate the
public on proper safety practices, remind drivers to share the road by abiding to the 3-foot law and move us closer to our goal of creating Complete Streets citywide.”
Sentinel Peak Road is open Sunrise to 8 p.m. There is no vehicle access on Mondays and only 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday-Sunday.
