MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Mesa police say a suspect was injured when struck by an officer's police cruiser after the suspect allegedly pointed an object at the officer in a threatening manner.

Police say a cellphone was found next to the suspect, whose injuries weren't considered life-threatening.

Detective Nik Rasheta said the incident occurred Thursday evening officers responded to a report by security at a light rail station of a man acting suspiciously and trying to cell items.

Rasheta says the man reached behind his back and then turned toward an officer in a shooting stance while pointing a black object at the officer, who accelerated his vehicle and struck the suspect.

No officers were injured.
