Mesa man indicted on 42 counts for homemade pipe bombs

Posted

A Mesa man found with more than 40 pipe bombs in his garage faces multiple weapons charges.

The Arizona attorney general's office said Wednesday that a grand jury indicted Jeffrey Metcalf last week in Maricopa County Superior Court on 42 counts of misconduct involving weapons.

A message left with a defense attorney listed for Metcalf in online court records was not immediately returned.

Authorities say a task force discovered bomb-making materials in Metcalf's car during a traffic stop last month.

That led to a search of the 51-year-old former Marine's home.

Department of Public Safety officers found 41 homemade pipe bombs in a cooler and one in the backyard.

It took eight bomb technicians more than three hours to safely remove all of them.
