Memorial Day events around Southern Arizona

Several locations and organizations will be hosting Memorial Day ceremonies around Southern Arizona on Monday, May 30.

The following is a list of some of the events:

TUCSON

SOUTHERN ARIZONA VA

The Tucson VA Medical Center will hold a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30 starting at 10 a.m. in the R.E. Lindsey Jr. Auditorium, located in Building 4.

EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY & CEMETERY 

East Lawn Palms will hold Memorial Day ceremonies at 9 a.m. Event includes guest speakers, music and an F-16 flyover. East Lawn is at 5801 E. Grant Road.

VFW Post 4903 will perform a ritual ceremony, and Sons of Orpheus will perform a musical selection. Sons of the American Revolution along with Piper Tammy Simmons will present colors. There will be a rifle salute by Bulk Fuel Company Alpha Marine Reserves as well as a Taps performance by bugler Ruben Moreno with dove release. Barbeque will be served immediately following all ceremonies.

FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL SOUTH LAWN CEMETERY

South Lawn Cemetery will host a Memorial Day service for all veterans. South Lawn Cemetery is located at 5401 South Park Avenue and the ceremony begins at 9 a.m.

The Tucson Concert Band will perform Taps.  A color presentation will be presented by Tucson Detachment 007 Marine Corps League, University of Arizona Air Force ROTC and Piper William Don Carlos followed by a rifle salute and dove release. The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 106 will have a Memorial Museum on display featuring all local fallen heroes, past and present.

ARIZONA VETERANS' MEMORIAL CEMETERY

Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery will hold a ceremony at 8 a.m. There will be a wreath laying, guest speakers and an F-16 flyover. The cemetery is at 15950 N. Luckett Road in Marana.

RITA RANCH PURPLE HEART PARK

Memorial Day Ceremony at Purple Heart Park will be held at 10 a.m. on May 30. A special thanks goes to the 162nd Tactical Fighter Wing, the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard, the University of Arizona "Pride" Alumni Band, the City of Tucson Department of Parks & Recreation, the local Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts Troops, & the Rita Ranch Neighborhood Association for their support in assisting with the ceremony.  
 
TUCSON ESTATES
 
43rd annual Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony at Tucson Estates is on May 30 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Parade begins at 8 a.m., ceremony begins at 9 a.m.
 
HYMNS FOR OUR HEROES
 

Santa Cruz Summer Winds and the Jazz Collective of Southern Arizona is hosting "Hymns for Our Heroes" a memorial day salute to those who have died. They will be performing at Community Performance & Art Center, 1250 W Continental Road.

PIMA COUNTY SWIMMING POOLS

All nine of Pima County's pools will open for Memorial Day weekend, Saturday May 28 through Labor Day.

 
NOGALES
 
On Memorial Day, veterans, their families and friends will congregate at the County Veterans Memorial Cemetery for a ceremony honoring deceased veterans beginning at 10 a.m.
 
FORT HUACHUCA
 
Fort Huachuca honors America's Veterans and salutes fallen service members during its annual Memorial Day ceremony 11 a.m., May 30 at the Post Cemetery.
 
The event is free and open to the public. Due to limited parking at the cemetery, guests are are asked to park in two designated parking lots on Christy Avenue and take advantage of the free shuttles to the cemetery.
