TUCSON, Ariz. - A man who allegedly assaulted a University of Arizona police officer in October avoided prison time.

Ivar Lortz-Valenzuela, who police say kicked an officer in the face during a bicycle theft investigation Oct. 26, pleaded guilty to attempt to commit an aggravated assault on a peace officer. He was sentenced to three years of probation.

Police say the incident happened in the 1200 block of East Speedway, and that Valenzuela escaped arrest.

South Tucson police arrested Valenzuela the following month.
