A man who pleaded guilty to leaving his teenage girlfriend for dead on an American Indian reservation in Arizona is scheduled to be sentenced Tuesday.
Andre Hinton faces up to eight years in federal prison. He pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter earlier this year, potentially ending a case that has spanned more than a decade.
Katherine "Kat" Tortice died in November 2006 of blunt force trauma to the head. Her body was found a month later in a shallow grave on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation.
Court filings say Hinton struck the teen during an argument and she later lost consciousness. He didn't seek medical attention.
Hinton and a friend buried the 16-year-old girl and ditched digging tools in a lake. A dive team found a wooden handle years later.
