A man was sentenced to life in prison Monday for a first-degree murder in a 2016 incident.
According to the Pima County Attorney's Office, Steve Anaya shot and killed Alan Galvez once in the head and twice in the back after a drug deal gone wrong.
Galvez and his cousin had attempted to sell heroin to Anaya. His cousin escaped, and Anaya dumped Galvez's body in the desert and stole and pawned his gold necklace. He was arrested two weeks after the murder, and still had the weapon.
In addition to murder, Anaya was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault and possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited possessor.
KGUN9 originally reported Anaya was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison.
