With school set to start soon, a local law enforcement organization is out to help students and teachers get the gear they need.
The Pima County Sheriff's Department posted up at a northwest side Target to gather supplies Saturday.
Sheriff Mark Napier said that without the proper supplies, education can be difficult.
"It's just harder for these kids to function," he said. "And when we give out these school supplies in the Fall like we did last year, to see the kids' eyes light up, knowing that they're gonna have these things that they didn't think they have, it's just really heartwarming."
The supplies will be put into backpacks and handed out to children via the department's Badges and Backpacks initiative July 28 at the TCC.
