TUCSON, Ariz. - The Tucson Sugar Skulls led the defending IFL Champion Iowa Barnstormers for the first 58 minutes and 52 seconds on Saturday night at the Tucson Arena before losing in front of a crowd of 2,775.

With just over a minute to go, Sugar Skulls kicker Josh Gable had his field goal attempt blocked and recovered for an Iowa touchdown, giving the Barnstormers their first lead. Tucson then retook the lead on a Shaq Curenton touchdown catch from quarterback Jake Medlock.

But with seven seconds to go, Daquan Neal’s five yard scramble proved to be the game winner for Iowa.

“We’re still not there,” said Sugar Skulls head coach Marcus Coleman, who was Iowa’s defensive coordinator last year. “We need to be able to fix mistakes.”

The Sugar Skulls drop to 3-5 on the season and have lost four games in a row.
