Ina exit's shutdown detours trouble on Marana streets

Posted

MARANA, Ariz (KGUN9-TV) - Construction where Ina Road meets I-10 is causing trouble that reaches beyond that spot.

Because the exit is closed, detouring drivers are dragging congestion and accidents onto other Marana streets.

Drivers who would have driven down Ina, are passing through places like Orange Grove and Thornydale instead.   They're frazzled, frustrated and impatient.

Marana Police are seeing more red light runners---and wrecks---more than 30 at just this intersection, since the Ina exit closed about three months ago.

Officer Michael Jost says drivers are detouring through small side streets too.

"We've actually noticed that we had complaints where neighborhoods have noticed that people are trying to avoid the activity at the intersections now, cutting through the neighborhoods, so not travelling the speed limit which is causing concern for their children and them in the neighborhood."

Allan Morales works near Orange Grove and Thornydale.  He tries to steer clear of the congestion and frustrated drivers.

"You have to be alert, really alert.  Like I said, a lot of traffic so you just have to watch every angle and just trying to make sure, and be on your way."

Marana Police have focused more enforcement on the areas taking on trouble from the Ina exit closure.  Their advice: expect delay, allow extra time, and avoid a collision or ticket that will really slow you down.
