Health professionals, CDC recommend getting early flu vaccine

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and health professionals are recommending everyone get their flu shot early this year.

The interim director of the Pima County Health Department, Dr. Bob England, told KGUN9 it is nearly impossible to predict just how bad an upcoming flu season will be but based off the current flu season in the southern hemisphere there could be reason for concern.

Dr. England added flu season starts at a different time every year, Last year it started later than usual, the year before that sometime in October, according to Dr. England.

This year, Dr. England says flu season could be here soon, which is why he is urging everyone get their flu shot as soon as possible.

"You need at least two or three weeks to build anti-bodies from the flu shot, so you really don't want to wait too long," said Dr. England.

There are multiple option for the flu vaccine. You can get the regular flu shot, if you are 65 years or older you can get a higher dosage, and the nasal spray is also available for those who aren't too keen on needles.
