Glendale teachers say they haven't received promised bonuses

Posted

A group of at least 20 teachers say a Phoenix-area charter school is refusing to award them performance pay earned in the past academic year.

The Arizona Republic reports the teachers sent the letter to Heritage Elementary's Principal Justin Dye on Friday claiming that he promised they would receive money from voter-approved education funds.

Dye says the teachers have already received the first half of their merit pay, but would not get the second installment since they resigned from the Glendale charter school.

Dye says the decision to withhold the second half of the installment was made by Heritage's school board.

The teachers argue that they are still owed between $1,500 and $1,800 each for work they already did, even though they have left the school.
