TUCSON, ARIZ. — Gates Pass Road has claimed another vehicle.
Pima County Sheriff's deputies closed the road in both directions today to remove a vehicle that had gone over the edge. The incident occurred sometime last week, with no reported injuries.
During the removal on Tuesday, frequent drivers of the pass voiced concerns about the road’s safety.
"But I’ve often thought, people who are not used to it, or if you’re foolish or you’re texting, that it could be, potentially, deadly," said Kate Becker, a regular on Gates Pass Road.

The lack of guardrails was also brought up as a possible hazard.
"There’s no guardrails or anything like that," said Cheryl Osburn, another Gates Pass regular.
Michael Laredo, another driver, echoed that sentiment.
"Up here at the top though it can be a little bit scary. I mean there’s like no guardrails or anything," he said.
The vehicle's removal today follows a separate incident last week where a motorcyclist died after losing control on Catalina Highway.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the recent crash on Gates Pass, be sure to continue following KGUN9 for more.
