TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - El Rio Community Health Center will be hosting a back to school immunization event on Saturday, August 6. The event will also have free vision and dental screenings.

The event will be taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 839 West Congress.

The event is for kids, ages 5-18, who need their required shots for the school year.

Other services being offered at the event will include dental screenings with fluoride varnish treatment and vision screenings.

The first 200 children to receive immunizations or a screening will receive a free back pack courtesy of UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, $15 shoe voucher from Mercy Care Plan and a new book.

A parent or legal guardian must be present and also bring shot records, and an insurance card if covered.

“We are fortunate to live in a time when vaccines can protect children against 15 serious diseases.  Vaccines prevent infections and save lives. Vaccinating children protects not only the child, but also  the community,” according to Dr. Andrew Arthur, El Rio Associate Medical Director for Pediatrics.

There will be a number of giveaways and a face painter on site.
