Authorities say a student has been arrested for having a semi-automatic gun in his backpack at Florence High School.
The name and age of the boy haven't been released, but school officials say he's been suspended pending an expulsion hearing.
Charges have been forwarded to the Pinal County Juvenile Courts for possession of a firearm by a minor and possessing a deadly weapon on school grounds.
Florence police say the teen allegedly showed the gun to another student while in a school bathroom Wednesday and the student then told a teacher about it.
The student was brought to the school office, and the gun reportedly was found in his backpack.
Police say the teen's reason for carrying the weapon remains under investigation.
