PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona grand jury has indicted a former Eloy Elementary School District payroll clerk on 14 felony counts for alleged theft and misuse of public monies.

State prosecutors say Denise Burden is accused of stealing more than $23,000 from the school district by paying herself unapproved overtime from 2013 to last year.

The Arizona Attorney General's Office Division of School Audits discovered possible financial misconduct by Burden during a 2015 performance audit.

Investigations say they discovered Burden allegedly paid herself unapproved overtime for 38 pay periods.

She also is accused of forging payroll vouchers and time sheets during that same time period.

Prosecutors say Burden is facing charges of theft, forgery, misuse of public monies and fraudulent scheme and artifices.

It was unclear Thursday if she has a lawyer yet.
