Authorities say a state trooper was injured during a confrontation with a possibly intoxicated pedestrian walking on a highway about 22 miles north of Flagstaff.
Arizona Department of Public Safety officials say the incident occurred Monday night along U.S. 180 and the suspect is in custody.
They say 29-year-old Jorge Santana Esquivel of Flagstaff is being held on suspicion of possession of dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer and escape.
DPS officials say the trooper tried to arrest Esquivel but he fled on foot with the trooper in pursuit.
The chase led into the forest and the trooper lost his footing and fell, hitting his head on a log.
Another responding trooper made the arrest.
DPS says the trooper's injuries aren't life-threatening.
