DPS: Man arrested for criminal speeding after chasing trooper

Posted

A man has been arrested after the Arizona Department of Public Safety said the man was chasing a trooper at 90 MPH while on U.S. 60.

According to DPS, around 9:40 a.m. on August 2 a trooper noticed a car was following him as he was patrolling U.S. 60 in the East Valley.

The trooper was alarmed at the possible motives of the driver who was driving closely behind him. The trooper slowed down and then sped up to 90 mph with his emergency lights on in an effort to get the driver to stop following him.

The trooper was able to finally get behind the vehicle that was following him and stopped it.

The driver told the trooper he was pursuing and video taping him in order to document the trooper speeding above the speed limit.

The driver was arrested for criminal speeding.

DPS said troopers routinely have to speed in order to "effectivelytdo their jobs." Citizens who believe troopers are driving negligently should contact DPS and have the driving addressed via the trooper's supervisor instead of pursuing a trooper.
