TUCSON, Ariz. - A Desert View High School student is headed to Washington, D.C. to read poetry in a national competition.

Edgardo Aguilar discovered his passion for poetry reading while preparing for college.

He's representing Arizona in the 14th annual Poetry Out Loud National Finals at the capital next week, where he will recite three poems.

"I'm able to embody the words that are going on, see where the author is coming from in a sense," he said. "It's not one that I'm looking to memorize because it's got flowery language, because it seems cool."

Aguilar won the state title and has finished seven original poems.
