Deliberation under way in Williams case

Posted

Jurors are deliberating in the trial of a man accused of killing a couple and their dog in northern Arizona.

The Arizona Daily Sun reports Derrick Barnett is charged with nine counts including two counts of first degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Prosecutors said during Tuesday's closing arguments that Barnett killed Michael and Nora Dimuria at their Williams home because he needed money.

They cited a recorded phone call between Barnett and his mother where he said he was ready to accept his responsibility.

Public defender Roberta McVickers told the jurors that none of the testimony amounted to a confession of guilty.

The jury is expected to deliver a verdict in the next few days.
