TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - An error in a tax levy for a Tucson-area school district means it will receive $1.8 million less in property taxes this year.
KOLD-TV reports that the levy for a voter-approved spending override intended to provide the Catalina Foothills Unified School District with $2 million yearly to upgrade facilities was off by a decimal point.
That mean property owners in the district were charged only 3.1 cents for every $100 of assessed value, not 31 cents.
District Superintendent Mary Kamerzell said it's disappointing that the error occurred after Pima County assessed the override correctly the past three years.
According to KOLD, the override will have to be made up in the next fiscal year, meaning that taxpayers will be billed nearly double for that part of the property tax.
