The CDC is reporting some of the highest numbers of syphilis cases in about 20 years. Here in Pima County, the health department reported more than double the average number of cases for the third year in a row.
Cases of adult syphilis spiked in 2014 to nearly triple the number in 2013. The health department said the rise in dating apps over the past couple years has played a big role in the spread of infections like syphilis.

While numbers have slightly declined since 2014, Dr. Francisco Garcia says cases of congenital syphilis are on the rise, which is alarming to doctors.
