Firefighters battled a house fire on the eastside Sunday.
According to Tucson Fire spokesman Barrett Baker, the blaze is in the 500 block of North Bahamas Drive.
The Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross is helping a woman who lives in the home.
The house had no working smoke alarm. The woman's two dogs alerted her about the fire. Both dogs are OK, but the woman's parakeet died.
Baker said the fire started in the kitchen. The woman left cooking food unattended.
