Deadly crash shuts down westbound I-10 north of Casa Grande

TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — A car wreck shut down westbound Interstate 10 north of Casa Grande Wednesday.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, the freeway was closed at milepost 188 due a deadly crash.

There was no estimated time for the freeway to reopen.

According to DPS, the wreck happened at 11:36 a.m. Several commercial trucks and a passenger vehicle were involved.

A commercial truck, pulling an enclosed cargo trailer, went from eastbound lanes, through the dirt median and into the westbound traffic, where it hit two commercial trucks pulling cargo trailers.

Several vehicles on westbound I-10 were also involved.

The truck that was going the wrong way ignited and burst into flames. Two commercial trucks and several other vehicles rolled over.

Two people died at the scene.

Several people with injuries were flown out by helicopter or transported by ground to hospitals.

Traffic restrictions will be in place for several hours. Eastbound I-10 is down to two lanes and westbound I-10 remains closed.
