UPDATE 4:35 p.m.

Both the driver and passenger in Tuesday's early morning crash on Aviation Parkway were ejected from their car, a Dodge Charger, according to Pima County Sheriff's Department.

PCSD says in a press release that the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. at Aviation Parkway at Technical Drive. The passenger, 26-year-old Nicole Gutierrez, died at the scene of crash. The driver, who has not been identified, was taken to a nearby hospital, PCSD says.

According to PCSD, detectives' investigation revealed that the car had been travelling eastbound on Aviation at 'a high rate of speed,' when the driver lost control in a curve. The Charger hit concrete barriers, several signs, a light pole and a building during the crash.

PCSD says the investigation is still ongoing.
