TUCSON, Ariz. - The Center of Opportunity in Tucson officially open its doors to the public on Monday, June 3.

The facility is located at 4550 S. Palo Verde Road.

The center, which has been dubbed a "one-stop shop" for the homeless provides both short and long-term shelter for those who need it.

"A lot of people are suffering from addiction or alcoholism. One of the main things we do is we offer recovery program," said Victor Hightower, who works with the Gospel Rescue Mission.

The center will eventually have more than 350 beds and will offer guests everything they need to get back on their feet.

"We have some 30 something other service providers here, we have medical care, dental care, mental health care, government benefits, we have a group that's going to be referring veterans to different services in the community," said Hightower.

The center is filled with office spaces for the different service providers. They offer everything from government benefits to medical care, dental care and even work programs.

Volunteers working in the shelter said they want the center to be known for showing what they call radical hospitality.

"It's about being, overwhelming people with love and treating them with dignity and respect," said Hightower.

Although the center is opening it's doors to the public today, it isn't fully finished just yet.

In July, construction will begin on five additional buildings that will sit on the property.

Once completed, the buildings will house additional services.

Volunteers at the facility are always needed. If you would like to volunteer you can call (520) 704-1501.
