TUCSON, Ariz. — Tucson will be commemorated for it's 244th anniversary of the founding of the Tucson Presidio hosted by Southern Arizona Transportation Museum Sunday.
The celebration will go from 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and will include a historic proclamation reading by Mayor Rothschild, birthday cake, and activities.
On August 20, Tucson's officials birthday, the Presidio San Agustín del Tucson Museum, Los Descendientes del Presidio, and the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum will hold a birthday celebration hosted by the Tucson/Pima County Historic Commission starting at 4:45 p.m. located on the northeast corner of the original Presidio at 196 North Court Avenue.
Scheduled activities on Tuesday:
- Performances by Los Changitos Feos Mariachis, Danzacultura Folklorico, and Gertie and the T.O. Boys playing Waila music
- Free birthday cake sponsored by Long Realty and served by El Presidio Histroci Neighborhood neighbors
- A happy hour with El Charro taco bar and refreshments for sale (The first 300 city or county employees to show their ID will receive a free happy hour taco!)
- Community tables with activities and information from local organizations, such as Mission Gardens, the San Xavier Co-op, the Mexican Consulate and others
