U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers arrested two people and seized more than $380,000 in drugs in two separate arrests.
On May 8 CBP officers arrested a 24-year-old Mesa, Arizona man at the Port of Lukeville after they located more than 66 pounds of marijuana in his Volkswagen sedan during a secondary inspection.
A narcotics-detection canine alerted agents to the backseat where officers found several packages of marijuana worth more than $33,000.
On May 9 CBP officers arrested a Mexican national woman after she tried to smuggle nearly 31 pounds of cocaine, worth almost $348,000, through the Port of Nogales.
Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred the 40-year-old woman for a further inspection of her Nissan van. A narcotics-detection canine helped officers locate the drugs inside the vehicle's right wheel well.
Officers seized the vehicles and drugs from both cases and turned the subjects over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
