TUCSON, Ariz. - Gates Pass Road was closed for hours Thursday as authorities retrieved a vehicle that drove off the mountain.
The road was reopened in the noon hour.
According to the Pima County Sheriff's Office, it happened Monday at around noon, just west of the viewing area on the popular scenic route in the Tucson Mountains. Investigators say the driver was alert and conscious after the crash and was taken to the hospital for an injury.
In the days since, authorities received multiple calls about the car from many who were concerned the crash had just happened.
On Thursday morning, authorities shut down the road at 9 a.m. for several hours as crews removed the vehicle from the area.
