U.S Border Protection officers say they have arrested two men they suspect of trying to smuggle nearly 74 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly 4 ounces (113 grams) of suspected fentanyl pills into the United States.
The agency said Monday the arrests in two separate cases occurred over the weekend at Arizona's San Luis Port of Entry with Mexico.
A 27-year-old man was arrested after a police dog found the methamphetamine hidden in the gas tank of his truck when he tried to enter the United States. The drugs had an estimated street value of nearly $220,000.
In the second case, a police dog discovered the suspected fentanyl pills on a 43-year-old man as he attempted to entry the U.S. on foot at the same crossing.
