Board of Regents: 50 candidates for UA president position

Posted
The search for a new University of Arizona president continues.

According to the Arizona Board of Regents and the university's presidential search committee, the list of potential candidates has dwindled down to 50.

Since the search began last year, members of the committee and board of regents had hundreds of applicants and candidates for the position, but they have now cut that list in half.  the search committee says the candidates are from a wide range of locations, backgrounds and professions.

They expect to start working through and narrowing down the list of prospects at their next meeting later this month. Each member will then recommend their favorite and interviews with candidates will begin later in the Spring, with the goal of having a new university president take office by August.

The new president will replace current UA President Ann Weaver Hart, who announced last summer she would not seek a contract extension. Her contract expires in June 2018.
