TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The extended family of Roman Barreras says his parents would run from them if they encountered in a store or neighbnorhood.
A landlord found the skeletal remains of three year old Roman Barreras while cleaning the house the boy's parents occupied until they were evicted.
Now the boy's mother, Raquel Barreras is charged with first degree murder and child abuse, while his father Martin Barreras is charged with child abuse.
In a news conference arranged by Homicide Survivors, most family members said they had never seen Roman. Those who had seen him said they hadn't seen him since 2012.
Family members say they tried to force Martin and Raquel Barreras to show them the child, and tried to get Arizona Child Protective Services to intervene but those efforts went nowhere.
