A truck driver who parked his rig in the middle of a California road and took a nap has been convicted for a resulting bus crash that killed one person and injured seven.
Steven Kilty of Apache Junction, Arizona, was convicted Tuesday of involuntary manslaughter for the 2014 crash in the Mojave Desert.
Prosecutors say Kilty arrived at the Fort Irwin Army base the night before his scheduled delivery. He parked his tractor-trailer in the right lane of a road on the property, turned off the lights and failed to put out safety reflectors before going to sleep.
A Victor Valley Transit Authority bus carrying commuters to the fort hit the rig before dawn. One person lost an arm.
Kilty now faces up to eight years in federal prison.
