Defense attorneys are seeking a hearing to examine whether jury deliberations at the bribery trial of former Arizona Corporation Commissioner Gary Pierce have been tainted.
The request Monday by lawyers for Pierce and three others cites a juror's decision to bring notes into the deliberation room that she wrote while at home.
Last week, U.S. District Judge John Tuchi declined to question the juror about the notes.
Tuesday will mark the fourth day of jury deliberations.
Pierce is accused of accepting $31,000 in bribes from water company owner George Johnson in exchange for favorable regulatory decisions.
Authorities say Pierce tried to get Johnson to buy him a piece of land.
Pierce, Johnson and two others have pleaded not guilty to charges.
