TUCSON, Ariz. - Dozens of ASARCO Teamsters started a strike Sunday night over work conditions, benefits and pay.
According to statement from Teamsters Local 104, 138 members started a strike at 11 p.m. The strike initiated after 77 percent of the workers voted in favor of the measure.
The striking employees work at the ASARCO Mission Complex in Sahuarita.
The Teamsters Local 104 statement says workers have gone nine years without a pay raise, and that ASARCO offered to give a third of workers with a pay raise but would freeze pension plans and double out-of-pocket health plan costs.
