TUCSON, Ariz. - The Reid Park Zoo animal family is welcoming a new member: Oja the Andean bear.
Born at the Zurich Zoo as part of a breeding program, the inquisitive, bold bear enjoys munching on peanuts, raisins and strawberries.
Oja turns 5 years old Feb. 16. She is a companion to Worf, the zoo's male Andean bear.
After she has fully acclimated to her surroundings she will be on display beginning in March.
"Oja is an easy going and incredibly smart bear," said Dr. Alexis Moreno, Reid Park Zoo veterinarian, in a statement. "She has adjusted really well and is enjoying the enrichment the Animal Care Team has provided for her behind the scenes in the Animal Health Center."
