TUCSON, Ariz. — The Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) fired a local high school basketball official for reportedly making a racist remark before a game in Sahuarita.

It was a freshman game between Walden Grove and Pueblo. The head of the AIA says a parent overheard the racist comment from an unmarked official to a coach. The parent says the official asked the coach to check for players' green cards.

"It was made with poor taste, and we won't tolerate that type of behavior," said Brian Gessner, the state commissioner of officials.

The head of the AIA says even if the official was joking, it doesn't matter. He says the behavior will not be allowed.
