After renovations, Jesse Owens Park is scheduled to reopen on June 22

The Jesse Owens Park renovations on the Eastside will finally be available to the public.

The park was originally scheduled to open on May 7. Then, after a minor pushback, it was scheduled to open on May 31, but now the park's opening day is scheduled for June 22.

Last year, the city announced $1 million would go towards improving the park.

The money for the project comes from a variety of sources, including impact fees, private contributions, and grants.

Some of the new improvements include a shade structure for one of the playgrounds, a resurfaced basketball court, added parking spots, and a new irrigation system.

Tucson Parks and Recreation says construction delays and problems found when trenching for the irrigation are to blame for the delays.

There is some good news, though.

The pool at the park will open July 1 and don't forget, kids can swim for free at all city pools except at the Edith Ball Recreation Center.

A full list of all of the city's public pools can be found at tucsonaz.gov.
