A couple inches of snow on Mt. Lemmon, safety reminders if headed up

Posted

There are a couple inches of snow on Mount Lemmon and Ski Valley skiing is still closed, but that didn't stop many people from coming up to play.

"It is great to see snow up here because it is so rare, you are 45 minutes away and you are in a totally different atmosphere," said Tucsonan Rhett Taylor.

Aside from mountain trails, Ski Valley was busy with people riding the lift.

Ski Valley owner Graham Davies says they need about two more storms before the ski run opens.

"It was a good start and hopefully we can have some more down the road," said Davies.

Some safety tips to keep in mind if headed up the mountain:

  • The speed is 35 miles per hour
  • It is illegal to park on the side of the road over the white line
  • Drive slow because the roads may be slick.

Be sure to check Mt. Lemmon road conditions before heading up to see if the road is open and whether tire chains are required.
